BLOCK PARTY

I mix cake icing into grey matter

no one else will eat. Around me, a gardener

guillotines lollipop trees. A father scoops

globes of ice into gaping white

cones. A mother bruises

their hemispheres red

and blue and green.

I am hungry for what is not

absolutely forgiven: the light not yet

leaving their mouths, the theft

of an overbite, the daughter as a body

of possum plastered near her feet.
